Care Concept insurance: the company, the insurer behind it and its products for Austria

Quick answer

In 2026, Care Concept insurance is sold by Care Concept AG, an insurance intermediary in Bonn (multiple agent, HRB 8470), not by an insurer. For Austria it sells Care Austria, announced in April 2024 (IHK Bonn company news); the risk carrier is HanseMerkur Versicherungsgruppe (Advigon Versicherung AG) in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, supervised by the FMA Liechtenstein (policy terms, checked October 2026). Care Concept handles the contracts and claims.

Who is Care Concept AG?

Care Concept AG is a German insurance intermediary based in Bonn. Its legal notice says “We act as a multiple agent under § 34d (1) GewO” (Mehrfachvertreter, an agent for several insurers), registered with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Bonn/Rhein-Sieg (Care Concept legal notice). Care Concept AG is entered in the commercial register as HRB 8470 at the Bonn local court (Care Concept legal notice, 2026). In the Care Austria contract documents it appears as the “Mehrfachvermittler (Assekuradeur)” through which the contract is concluded, and as the company “responsible for contract administration including processing of claims” (AVB consumer information, our translation). Care Concept describes itself as a partner for health insurance abroad “for over 27 years”; we did not check the founding date in the register.

Who is the insurer behind Care Concept insurance in Austria?

The insurer of Care Austria is HanseMerkur Versicherungsgruppe (Advigon Versicherung AG), Drescheweg 1, 9490 Vaduz, Liechtenstein, a direct health and life insurer supervised by the Liechtenstein Financial Market Authority (FMA) (AVB consumer information). Care Concept AG is on Vienna's MA 35 list: unlimited Care Austria tariffs need no extra declaration, 364-day ones do (checked 30 October 2026) (wien.gv.at). Care Concept itself states that Care Austria is recognised by all municipalities and authorities in Austria. That is Care Concept’s own statement. We have confirmed two official lists only: Vienna’s (see MA 35 Vienna) and the City of Linz’s, which lists Care Concept AG among accepted private health insurers; Care Austria and Care Austria Education need no extra declaration there, while Care Austria 364 and Care Austria 364 Education need a contractual extra declaration (Magistrat Linz, list dated 12.12.2025, checked 30 October 2026).

Which products does Care Concept Austria offer?

Care Concept Austria mainly means Care Austria, the cover for residence permits. It comes in two groups and two terms. Education is for eligible people aged 12–35 in the specified groups, e.g. students and au pairs; Standard is for other eligible applicants. Neither group is open to people subject to compulsory Austrian health insurance (AVB § 1). The term is either unlimited or 364 days, and all seven prices with their age bands, waiting periods and start rules are on Care Austria plan details. Vienna’s MA 35 page also lists other Care Concept tariffs (Economy, Au Pair, Expatriate, College and Student), each needing an extra declaration; the status of each is on MA 35 extra declaration by tariff.

Full cover, waiting periods and limits are on Care Austria plans and prices, and the start-date rules for the online form are on how to apply for Care Austria. For how the permit rule works, read health insurance for a residence permit; for the wider picture, health insurance in Austria. Austria health insurance cost puts the prices next to ÖGK self-insurance, and Care Austria vs FeelSafe compares Care Austria with another permit insurer on the same criteria.

As of 30 October 2026: Care Austria Education unlimited costs €56 a month (Care Concept tariff page, 2026), and Care Austria Standard unlimited costs €155 a month under 50 (Care Concept tariff page, 2026; rises from 2028 per the policy terms), each with a 1-year minimum term (AVB § 3). The 364-day tariffs need the extra MA 35 declaration.

Your age for the premium is the calendar year minus your year of birth, using the year your cover starts for the first price (for cover starting in 2027, use 2027); for Care Austria Standard the next band applies from 1 January of the year you turn 50 (unlimited tariff only) or 65 (AVB premium table). If you turn 36 during an Education contract, cover continues under Standard (AVB § 1). Cover cannot start before entry into Austria. Apply before the trip or within one year after entering Austria (AVB § 2). Cover ends when you leave Austria for good or receive the permit Daueraufenthalt EU (long-term EU residence) or another unlimited Austrian residence permit, AVB § 6 (AVB).

What do Care Concept insurance reviews show?

When we checked on 30 October 2026, the Trustpilot profile “care-concept.de” showed 80 Care Concept reviews. They are unverified and cover multiple Care Concept products, so we do not infer service or claims performance from them.

Care Concept’s English eKomi page showed no reviews (checked 29 October 2026), and the resellers care-austria.com and insurance-austria.at had no Trustpilot profile. We could not retrieve Google and ProvenExpert ratings. If a review platform matters to your decision, read the newest reviews there yourself and check what they raise against the policy terms. How we handle partners is set out in our editorial standards.

Is there a Care Concept insurance card?

Care Concept lists a “digital insurance card” among the benefits on its Austria page, together with the InvoiceApp, a customer portal and a 24/7 emergency number (care-concept.de). We found no details on its format.

How do claims work with Care Concept?

Care Concept claims start with you sending the bills to Care Concept AG, which handles claims for the insurer. The policy terms ask for original invoices to Care Concept AG, Postfach 30 02 62, 53182 Bonn (AVB § 10); the Austria page offers the InvoiceApp and the customer portal for submitting them digitally. Payment is due once the necessary checks are complete; after two months you can demand the reasons for any delay, and if the insurer does not answer within a month, payment falls due. We found no published average processing time.

How does Care Concept cancellation work?

Care Concept cancellation works in two steps for Care Austria. Within 14 days you can withdraw without giving reasons. After that, an unlimited Care Austria contract can be cancelled ordinarily only after one year, and then only to the end of an insurance year (31 December) with one month’s notice, in writing (AVB § 3). Separately, the contract ends when your stay in Austria ends for good (AVB consumer information, § 3) or when you receive an unlimited Austrian residence permit (AVB § 6). The consumer information also names a minimum contract duration of one month for Care Austria, which relates to the end of the stay, not to ordinary cancellation.

Whether an unlimited contract can end early when compulsory ÖGK insurance starts (for example with a new job that is subject to compulsory insurance) is not stated. Ask Care Concept AG in writing before you buy, and see ÖGK co-insurance if a relative may later be co-insured. When public insurance and the card that goes with it start is explained on e-card Austria.

Where can you complain about Care Concept or the insurer?

Complaints about Care Concept go first to Care Concept AG itself, which handles contract administration including claims. Complaints against the insurer can go to the supervisory authority, the Financial Market Authority (FMA) Liechtenstein, or to the Austrian social ministry (§ 130 VAG); out of court, the Liechtenstein conciliation board for financial services in Vaduz can help, and the right to go to court remains (AVB consumer information).

Frequently asked questions

How long does Care Concept take to pay a claim?

We found no published average claim time for Care Concept. The policy terms say payment falls due once the insurer has finished the investigations it needs; if they are not finished two months after you reported the claim, you can ask in writing why, and if the insurer does not answer within one month, the payment falls due anyway (Care Austria AVB). Send complete original invoices to make the check faster.

Can I get my money back if I cancel my Care Concept insurance right after buying it?

Yes, within 14 days you can withdraw from your Care Austria contract “without giving reasons”, by letter or e-mail to Care Concept AG (withdrawal notice in the AVB). If cover has already started, a pro-rata premium for that time is kept. After the 14 days, an unlimited Care Austria contract can be cancelled ordinarily only after one year, then only to 31 December with one month’s notice; it also ends when you leave Austria for good or receive an unlimited residence permit (AVB § 6).

Does Care Concept send benefit statements in English?

Do not count on English benefit statements from Care Concept. The contract language is German (“Maßgebliche Sprache … ist Deutsch”, AVB consumer information), and Care Concept’s English website says “The legally binding version is the German version.” We found no statement that certificates or benefit statements are issued in English. If you need English documents, for example for an authority, ask Care Concept AG in writing before you buy.

How do I send my medical bills to Care Concept?

Care Concept’s Austria page lists an “InvoiceApp”, a customer portal and a 24/7 emergency number (care-concept.de). The policy terms say original invoices are to be sent to Care Concept AG, Postfach 30 02 62, 53182 Bonn, Germany (AVB § 10). Keep copies and note the date you sent them.

Where can I complain about Care Concept or the insurer behind Care Austria?

Start with Care Concept, which handles contract administration including claims. Complaints against the insurer can go to the Liechtenstein Financial Market Authority (FMA, Vaduz) or the Austrian social ministry; there is also the Liechtenstein conciliation board for financial services (Schlichtungsstelle, Vaduz), and the right to go to court remains (AVB consumer information). Care Concept’s legal notice also names two German ombudsmen; whether they handle Care Austria cases we could not confirm.

How can I contact Care Concept about my own case?

You can reach Care Concept by phone on +49 228 97735 86 (the Austria product page, which also offers a live chat), or through the general line +49 228 97735-0 named in the consumer information.
